I used to feel like I was always late to things. Almost every artist that I started to admire as a kid, was one that either passed on or went on hiatus. What I now realize is that I was never late, I found them at the right time. I think this is the same way I feel about Prince. When I was young, my father, a sound engineer and DJ, introduced me to Prince. Especially on Saturday mornings, I remember him sitting in his studio, on his red futon, just laid back, playing his songs and sharing with me stories about Prince and his music. The two I remember enjoying were “Raspberry Beret” and “Let’s Go Crazy.” They were such fun songs that vividly paint memories of my youth. Every time I hear this songs now, I am whisked away by nostalgia.

I also find it incredible how after revisiting Prince’s music, as a young adult, it’s just as incredibly moving as it remember it from my childhood. His songs have that distinct sound I remember, however they still surprise me every time I hear them. I truly want to thank Prince for his incredible talent and dedication to creating music that would live on forever. Happy Birthday to a phenomenal musician. I wish you were still here creating incredible music but I know you live on in our hearts.
