For day 7 of analyzing a BTS song every day until their concert in Tampa, I have decided to analyze the song “Interlude: Set me free,” by Agust D or BTS’s Suga. Although it is a rather short song, the message that the lyrics expresses is not limited by the song’s length. Rather, it is enhanced.

Throughout the lyrics, Agust D describes his conflict between wanting to be set free from something and yet knowing that deep down that is not what he wants for himself (Chorus). These lyrics make the song incredibly powerful as it is such a relatable topic. Many people struggle with feeling as if they want to give up and be freed from something which causes them a lot of stress, and yet, inside they know that is not what they really want. I have experienced that before, with my own art.

Over 2 years ago, I started a challenge to draw BTS every day until they came back from the military. The challenge ended last year in June, however there were so many times that I wanted to give up. But every time I seriously considered giving up, I knew that was not what I actually wanted; I would have been very disappointed in myself.

It is this kind of sentiment that the song expresses throughout each verse. Agust D is here battling with his feelings of wanting to give up and be free and yet, still holding on because inside he does not want to. I feel that what he wants to be free from can possibly be two things. The first thing I think it could be is the monotony of quarantine and being stuck at home, as the album was released in 2020. The other meaning it could have is that it could describe how he might feel tired from chasing his dream and pursuing music at that one moment and want to instead stop there, however he knows that he would never do that and thus, struggles.

All in all, no matter the meaning of the song, one can see that it is a very deep but relatable song. I do not think the song will be performed at the concert in Tampa however, you never know. I would be pleasantly surprised if it is performed as it is one of my favorite Agust D songs but due to it being a group concert, I feel the solo songs that are included will be limited.
