For Day 9 of analyzing a song every day until BTS’ concert in Tampa, I am analyzing the song “28” by Agust D Ft. NiiHWA. I don’t think this song will be performed at the upcoming concert however I really do hope it will be only because this song is one of my favorite songs by Agust D. The main reason why I love this song is because even though the meaning is incredibly deep, it still remains as a song that many people can relate to.
Throughout this song, Agust D describes his struggle with growing older. More specifically, he states:
“Yeah, now I’ve become an adult who finds it hard to grasp my dream / And that’s growing up.” (Chorus).
This line describes one of the most common problems people battle when it comes to growing older: forgetting their dreams. When a person is younger, it is easy to keep dreaming and running after their dreams. However, as a person grows older, the reality of situations hit and it becomes harder to keep the flame alive. In Agust D’s case, his situation is a little similar.
When this song was released, he reached a lot of the goals he had for himself when he was younger. However, he describes in the song that it is as if he cannot remember what he was running so hard for. He then makes this realization that those kind of sad and confusing feelings are just a part of life. I feel that the reason why I love this song so much is because of this answer that the song provides. The answer that all the changes that we go through and all the times when we feel lost are just a part of life.
He doesn’t give a specific answer on how to fix the situation, as he most likely does not know how to himself. But through sharing his struggles and experience, I feel like that is a way to “fix” it. If a person shares what they are struggling with, and finds out that more and more people relate to it, there is definitely a sense of comfort that can come from that. The situation is not fixed, but it is a little more bearable. And I think it is with this mindset that Agust D presented this song to the world.
