For day 14 of analyzing a song every day until BTS’ concert in Tampa, I chose to analyze, “Base Line” by J-Hope. In this song, J-hope describes what his music and success is based off of: his drive and hard work. As an iconic song that was performed at Lollapalooza in 2022, I do hope this song sees the stage once again during BTS’ upcoming tour.
Within each lyric of the song, one can see the passion J-Hope has for his craft. It is this passion that has forged his path for him for the past, “10 years.” (Line 11). He consistently expresses throughout the song that his “base line” is that specific foundation. All the time and hard work he poured into his craft is what his music is based off of. This thus establishes his credibility throughout the song since he is constantly reassuring the listener that his music and motivations come from his real feelings and strive to continuously work harder.
It is these genuine lyrics that enhance the song’s message. It is J-Hope constantly expressing how his run towards his dreams has all been based off of his consistent hard work which makes that run ever so meaningful. I feel as if this is why I love this song. I love the genuine establishment of his credibility within the industry without being boastful. He stays humble by continuously saying he has worked hard, and will continue to work hard. However, he does not sell his talents short and still properly highlights them. It is these aspects that make the song a beautiful work of art.
