For day 17 of analyzing a BTS song every day until their concert in Tampa, I chose “Moon” by Jin of BTS. This song is one I was able to hear live last year at his solo concert in Tampa. Due to this, I hope to hear it again when he comes back to Tampa this year in 2026.
In the song, Jin compares himself to the Moon while his listeners, or his fans, are compared to the Earth. Throughout the song, Jin describes how he interprets his relationship with his listeners while making a few references to how the Moon orbits the sun. It is in these descriptions that the listener can hear how Jin views himself.
More specifically, Jin sings, “I didn’t even have a name / Until I met you.” (Verse 2). With this line, he describes how he feels that is was his listeners who gave his music career its meaning. Although a bit sad, it seems as if within this song, he wants to honor his listener rather than himself; in a way, supporting his career’s credibility with his humbleness. He then further goes on to describe how he wants to repay his listeners for what they’ve done for him, by staying by their side and being their light in their dark times (Chorus and Bridge).
Overall, although there are some sad undertones, the song “Moon” is truly a beautiful song. It is those raw lyrics of yearning to repay someone for all you feel they have done for you that really makes the song. Additionally, the hints into Jin’s inner feelings within the main context of the song shows him in a raw and beautifully unfiltered light. I think due to this, “Moon” will always remain as one of my favourite Jin songs of all time.
