For day 18 of analyzing a BTS song every day until the group’s performance in Tampa, I chose the song “Intro: Serendipity” by Jimin of BTS. This song serves as the intro to BTS’ “Love Yourself: Her” album, the first album in their “Love Yourself” album series. As the “Love Yourself” album series is one of my favorite from the group, naturally I do hope I can hear some of the songs such as “Intro: Serendipity” live in Tampa.

When looking at the song as a whole, one can see that it is about singer and their relationship with the person they are addressing. Jimin continuously reiterates that he feels their relationship and meeting, “is no coincidence,” constantly reinforcing the depth of his words and feelings towards that person he is addressing (Verse 1). With this constant reinforcement, the listener can understand how serious this relationship is to Jimin. It is something that, “was destined,” for him by something greater than him (Refrain). Jimin uses these phrases to give himself and his yearning for the other person credibility. And thus, after he says most of these lines, he states what he wants over all, for the other party to let him love them (Refrain, Outro: Jimin).

This yearning for love is not without fear, as Jimin also addresses that aspect of his experience within his longing for a relationship with the subject of the song. He states that, “As much as my heart flutters, I’m worried / The destiny is jealous of us” (Chorus). With this line, Jimin is describing that even though he feels that their relationship is one of a kind and prepared by something greater than him, he is still scared about their future as he does not know what may happen even if their relationship came to be through such measures. This fear is similar to real life, one can love a person so much, and feel as if everything aligns perfectly. However, no one can predict how life can go. And thus, such fear starts to grow. Jimin does not dwell too much on that though, and instead continues to sing in spite of the fear about how much he still wants to love the subject of the song.
