For day 31 of analyzing a BTS song every day until their concert, I decided to analyze “Heart on the Window (with Wendy)” by Jin. This song is a beautiful description of the heart growing fonder while waiting for someone and then at their actual return.
Throughout the song, Jin describes how he continuously missed and loved someone while they were waiting for each other. This can be seen in lines such as, “Across countless seasons / And I fall” (Lines 2 and 3). No matter how long it took, Jin reiterates constantly that he was always there and always waiting. Thus, he draws a heart on the window of his heart and compares his love to it (Lines 7-8 and 14-15). To draw a heart on a window, one must use their breath and blow on the window, creating condensation that lets their finger draw something. In order to keep the heart from fading, one must continue to redraw it over and over again on the glass. Jin expresses that he will do that with his love, he will continue loving the other person while they wait to be reunited with each other once again.
Additionally, Jin describes that while waiting, his love grew even stronger in the lines, “When I left you a heart on the window / I engraved it more deeply” (Lines 32 and 33). With this, he is reiterating his vow to always love the person he is referring to. Even with their separation due to time, Jin makes sure that he will continue to love them and wait to meet them once more no matter what. This is a message that really touches the hearts of anyone who hears the song, adding to the songs universal relatability.
All in all, “Heart on the Window (with Wendy),” by Jin captures the story of one’s love continuously being strengthened while they wait to be reunited with who they love once more. I think with BTS’ upcoming album seeming to be more focused on love, (they have a whole page and advertisement campaign across the globe entitled “What is your love song?”) I feel that this song would be a great addition to their concert set list.
