For day 32 of analyzing a BTS song every day until their concert in Tampa, I decided to analyze the song, “Film Out” by BTS. As one of their songs released entirely in Japanese, the song reaches an entirely different audience than expected. But with their beautiful lyricism, they can cross into any language.
When looking deeper into the lyrics, one can see the deep emotions that BTS wish to express. At the beginning, they write about the subject of the song and express how much they wish to see them, however they disappear as soon as they reach out (Verse 1). With this, BTS expresses the strong emotion of a love for someone that one cannot reach. They’re right there, and yet one cannot reach them. I feel that although this song may be more focused on romantic love, any kind of love for someone who was lost or feels too far away can fit. I also feel that with their lyrics they truly capture this meaning and touch the hearts of their listeners.
As the song progresses, BTS expresses their grief of loosing the person they love. This can be seen in the first chorus when BTS describes that they gaze at all the memories they have of the person and feel the pain of their loss (Chorus). I think loss comes in many different forms. Due to this, I feel that almost everyone who has lost anything can really relate to the lyrics BTS expresses here. With their kind expression of their feelings, BTS truly shows the pain of loosing someone, no matter what kind of loss it is.
All in al, “Film Out” is a beautiful heart wrenching song that can touch the hearts of many. Through its lyrics expressing a story of loss, it becomes a song that comforts those who have experienced that as well.
