For day 34 of analyzing a song every day until BTS’ concert in Tampa, and in honor of J-Hope’s birthday, I decided to analyze the song, “Killin’ It Girl (Solo Version)” by J-Hope. This song serves as J-Hope’s declaration of admiration for someone, but the way he admires her is similar to how he wrote the song, “Mona Lisa.”
In the song, J-Hope expresses how much he likes and admires the subject of the song. Within its lyrics, the girl is described as someone who is making her own money and taking care of herself with her own strength (Lines 1-7). Although J-Hope also describes her as someone who is beautiful, I find it lovely that that attribute is not the focus of the song. Instead, J-Hope continuously shows how much he likes her in her entirety.
Just like the song, “Mona Lisa” by J-Hope, he admires her hard work for herself. With the chorus (and title) being J-Hope congratulating the subject of the song for her hard work, “You’re killin’ it, girl,” I feel that this song is not only about his admiration for the girl I feel that it can serve as a fun anthem for women working in general. J-Hope really mastered the art of not just writing a great, hot, love song, but also a song of respect for women who are working hard in their life.
All in all, “Killin’ It Girl (Solo Version)” by J-Hope is such an amazing song that is not only filled with a fun admiration of someone, but also a slightly motivational undertone. Since I had the honor of hearing the song live in concert, I do hope that J-Hope can perform it again in BTS’ upcoming concert.
