For day 39 of analyzing a BTS song every day until their concert in Tampa, I chose “House of Cards” by BTS. This song was released in 2016 as a part of BTS’ HYYH or “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life” album series and serves as a stable in BTS’ discography. Within the song, the singers lament about a relationship that is as fragile as a house made of playing cards.
Diving a little deeper, the song begins by talking about the relationships foundation. More specifically in the lyrics, “Again, it’s unstable, again, it’s dangerous,” BTS paints a picture of a relationship on shaky ground using a card house as a metaphor. Like a house, the foundation of a relationship must be stable in order for it to last. BTS knows this and thus, with their shaky relationship with an unknown figure, they realize that it will fail due to the unstable ground.
All in all, “House of Cards” not only serves as a strong and passionate song about a failed relationship but as a warning for relationships built on a fragile foundation. I think this song might be performed in BTS’ upcoming concert however, I am not fully sure as they most likely will preform their newer songs. If they do perform this song, I will definitely be filled with joy.
