For day 58 of analyzing a BTS song every day until their concert in April, I decided to analyze, “2nd Grade” by BTS. This song describes the moment when BTS finally entered their 2nd year in making music.
This song serves as BTS’ song where they look back on the progress they have made. Although they only are looking back on 1 year, they realize that it was a year that they worked incredibly hard. This idea can be seen in lyrics such as, “I haven’t changed much baby, second grade of the K-pop scene,” describing how they’ve finally reached their second year. In describing this they are doing something that is very important in life. They are looking back on their progress. It is always important to look back on one’s life and see how far one has come as one can thus learn from their successes and mistakes.
So, for BTS to write a song about looking back on how far they have come, they are setting a great example for others to follow and to learn that it’s great to look back on one’s progress, no matter how big or small it is; progress is progress.
