For day 19 of analyzing a song every day until BTS’ concert in Tampa, I decided to analyze the song “Friends” by V and Jimin of BTS. I hope to analyze V’s lines in this post and then, in a future post, analyze Jimin’s lines. I think this song is a beautiful testament to V and Jimin’s friendship. Due to this, I feel that the song would be a great addition to the future concert’s setlist.
Overall, the song is about V and Jimin’s history. Within the lyrics, V reminisces on his relationship with Jimin and their friendship. With lyrics such as, “I remember our uniforms / Our memories are movies,” V expresses how the things he remembers about his past with Jimin are so vivid, like a movie (Verse 2). The movie reference in those lines can also show how detailed and meaningful those memories are to V as a person usually watches a movie for it’s story vivid content.
After singing about their memories together, V and Jimin both sing the chorus together, a chorus that gives the song a call to action. As they sing the lines, “For eternity, keep staying here stay,” they are making a promise to each other (Chorus). They are both expressing their desire to continue being friends, no matter what, for eternity. The use of the word “eternity” really helps to show how serious the two are about their friendship. Since that word is not a word that should be used lightly, the song gains a deeper meaning along with the meaning already provided by the other details of their already long lasting relationship within the song.
All in all, this song is a lovely song that beautifully illustrates V and Jimin’s friendship. Additionally, because many people can relate to having at least one friend who is incredibly close to them, the song also serves as a relatable one.
